Membership fee discounts

After graduation, recent graduates will be refunded the membership fees they have paid during their studies when their membership is updated to full membership within two months of graduation.

All membership fees of the Professionals of Business and Technology that are paid as Gold or Black members will be refunded during the first three years of membership after graduation.  All members who graduate after 1 January 2020 and who have paid membership fees during their studies receive a membership fee refund.

You do not need to apply for a membership fee refund separately; the benefit will be applied automatically when the member graduates.

The benefit replaces the previous benefit for graduates, where the member paid a reduced membership fee for the first six months of membership.

A copy of Kela’s pregnancy and parental allowance decision

The application must state:
The duration of the paid period at the start of pregnancy leave (it must also be stated if there is no paid period) and any paid annual holiday periods

Please note:
You can submit the discount application as soon as you receive Kela’s decision on the pregnancy and parental allowance. In order to determine the duration of the membership fee discount, we need information about the start and end dates of the period entitling you to the discount, that is, the duration of the unpaid period. A certificate of pregnancy issued at a maternity and child health clinic cannot be attached to the application.

The right to a membership fee discount applies to the period during pregnancy leave for which no salary is paid. At the beginning of pregnancy or parental leave, there is usually a period during which salary is still paid, and you are not entitled to a membership fee discount for that period. If the duration of the paid period is not mentioned in Kela’s decision and cannot be found on the application, it is assumed to be three months in the processing of the discount application. Normal membership fees are also charged for the duration of paid annual holiday.

A membership fee discount is also available for childcare leave.

A copy of Kela’s decision on childcare allowance

The application must state:
Any paid annual holiday periods during childcare leave and the planned duration of the childcare leave/date of returning to work

Please note:
The right to a membership fee discount only applies to the unpaid period. Normal membership fees are charged for the duration of paid annual holiday.

If the childcare leave continues for longer than stated in the Kela decision attached to the application, a copy of a new Kela decision indicating the continuation of the childcare leave must be sent in order to continue the discount.

If the new parental leave starts while the childcare leave is still ongoing, the basis for the discount is changed to maternity leave. A new application with attachments must be sent for processing the change

Student memberships (silver, gold and black memberships) are only intended for students studying for their first BBA degree. In the case of further studies after completing the degree (either studying for a completely new degree or other shorter studies), the membership type is full membership.

If you study full time, meaning that you do not work alongside your studies, you can get a 50% discount on the membership fee. If you work part-time or full-time alongside your studies, you pay the normal membership fee for the duration of your studies.

The membership fee discount is granted on the basis of full-time studies for a maximum of one academic year at a time. If your studies continue for a longer period, you must apply for continuation of the discount at the beginning of the next academic year. A certificate of attendance from the educational institution for the academic year in question must be attached to the application.

A 50% discount is granted for the membership fee based on full-time studies.

Unlike other full-time students, students with an unemployment benefit are also granted a membership fee discount for the summer months, because students with an unemployment benefit do not generally work during the summer like other students. However, the right to the membership fee discount only applies to unpaid time, so any work must be reported to our member service in order to cancel the discount.

A copy of the study leave/job alternation leave/leave of absence agreement made with the employer or a copy of the education fund’s funding decision

A 50% discount is granted for the membership fee based on full-time studies. Your unpaid leave must last continuously for at least one month in order to entitle you for a membership fee discount.

The criterion for granting membership fee discounts is an unpaid period lasting continuously for at least one month. The membership fee for BBAs is a fixed monthly fee that is not affected by salary income. Therefore, the discount is not granted on the basis of how small your income is, and part-time employees also pay the normal membership fee. If your situation is clearly different than usual part-time work (very little or completely occasional work), you can submit a discount application which will be processed on a case-by-case basis.

The first unemployment allowance payment notification with attachments (including the TE office’s statement on the right to daily allowance) and the latest unemployment allowance payment notification

The application must state:
Start date of unemployment and your current situation: are you still unemployed or are you employed/about to be employment (start date of employment)

Please note:
The criterion for granting membership fee discounts is an unpaid period lasting continuously for at least one month.

If you have received a so-called severance package, which is a one-time financial compensation at the end of the employment relationship, or holiday compensation for the holidays you have not taken, the calculated duration of the compensation (i.e. how many months’ salary the compensation corresponds to) is considered to be paid time for which you are not entitled to a membership fee discount. If your unemployment continues for at least one month after the calculated end date of the severance package, you can apply for a membership fee discount. The discount is granted starting from the end of the paid period.

As it is not possible to predict the duration of unemployment, the membership fee discount is always granted for three months at a time. Membership fee discounts that are valid until further notice are not granted. In order to continue the discount, the member must inform our member service at the end of the discount period if the unemployment continues. Members must also notify about the start of a new employment relationship.

A copy of the layoff notice

Please note:
The criterion for granting membership fee discounts is an unpaid period lasting continuously for at least one month. In order to receive a membership fee discount for the duration of the layoff, the layoff must be full-time and continuous, i.e. a period corresponding to unemployment. The discount is not granted on the basis of a temporary reduction in income, as the members of the Professionals of Business and Technology who work part-time also pay the normal membership fee.

As it is not possible to predict the duration of temporary layoffs that are valid until further notice, the membership fee discount is always granted for a maximum of three months at a time. Membership fee discounts that are valid until further notice are not granted. In order to continue the discount, the member must inform our member service at the end of the discount period if the layoff continues. Members must also notify about the continuation of work or the start of a new employment relationship.

Copies of sick leave certificates and/or Kela’s decisions on sickness allowance

The application must state:
Until when the employer has paid salary during sick leave

Please note:
The criterion for granting membership fee discounts is an unpaid period lasting continuously for at least one month. The right to the membership fee discount only starts after the payment of salary has ended. The discount can only be applied for when it is known that the unpaid sick leave will last for at least one month.

Please note:
Membership fee discounts are not granted as valid until further notice. If the duration of the validity of the basis for the discount is not known, the discount may be granted for a maximum of three months at a time. The discount can then be continued if the member notifies about the continuation of the basis for the discount. In the case of permanent disability pension, the membership can be changed to retired membership (requires resigning from the unemployment fund). In this case, the membership fee is smaller and you do not need to apply for a membership fee discount separately.

Please note:
If the end date of conscription is not known when applying for the discount, the discount is granted for six months. The end date must be notified to the member service of the Professionals of Business and Technology when it is known.
