Terms of employment for BBAs

As a union, our most important task is to negotiate general increases and better working conditions for our members. We negotiate collective agreements through our Akava-based negotiation organisations. An extensive network of personnel representatives ensures that the voice of BBAs is heard in the workplace.

Stable salary development

The salaries of BBAs increase mainly due to general increases.

Paid sick leave

We have negotiated a longer sick leave than guaranteed by law for the collective agreements.

Paid family leave

The law guarantees the right to family leave – without pay. We have negotiated paid family leave for the agreements.

Salary increases

We often don’t think about how the amount of the minimum wage or holiday bonuses are not included in the legislation. According to the law, the employee must be paid a normal and reasonable salary for their work. If there was no collective agreement, everyone should agree on salary increases themselves with the employer.

Many collective agreements have minimum wage tables that guarantee a reasonable salary that is suitable for the industry. The collective agreement negotiations determine the general increases to be paid in the industry. According to our member survey, the most important reason for the salary development of BBAs is a general increase in accordance with collective agreements. You can always negotiate a little extra for yourself in addition to the general increase.

Paid sick leave

Collective agreements guarantee a longer paid sick leave. The law only ensures the payment of sick leave pay for the day you fall ill and the nine following business days. In collective agreements, the length of paid sick leave varies from one month to three months.

Paid family leave

According to the law, parents are entitled to family leave, but only without pay. Collective agreements have agreed on equal paid family leave. Depending on the collective agreement, both parents are entitled to 28-36 days of paid parental leave. In addition, the parent giving birth is entitled to paid pregnancy leave. Once the pay for the leave has been agreed in the collective agreement, you can focus on the most important thing: your own child.

Caring for a sick child with pay

According to the law, you can care for a child under the age of 10 who has suddenly fallen ill for four days. However, the absence is unpaid. If a child falls ill often, the cost of absences begins to affect the family’s finances. In collective agreements, the absence to care for a sick child is usually agreed to be paid for four days. Thanks to the collective agreement, families don’t need to worry about the cost of absence from work.
